Ava is 2!

It’s hard to believe that I’m not giving birth at the moment, as I did so every two years for awhile there. Ava is 2, and my baby is a big girl now. She went around all day excitedly saying, “Happy Birtday!” She got some wonderful gifts from Grandma Deloris, Anna and Dan, and Dawn and Kirk. We all had fun playing with Isaac, Sophia and Lakota. It reminded me of being little and playing with my two cousins at all the birthdays.

I gave Ava a tutu, and can I just say, she is the most precious little thing in it! We also got her some “melissa and doug” brand toys that let you scoop ice cream cones and cut up fruit. I highly recommend them. I will buy the Sushi one for Connor’s birthday in May. (You can get them at “Scout” in Lincoln.)

Dan and Doug foolishly went to Val’s soccer game in shorts. Anyone who knows Spirit Field knows better. It’s like 90 mph winds at all times. Val actually got sunburned for the first time this year, even though it was freezing! I always wear Doug’s XXL hoodie when I go.

I also chaperoned Prom on Saturday night with Cyndy. The kids all looked so nice, and there was (in my opinion) minimal drama and grinding. They played “Footloose” and then “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” I thought of all my gang back in 1988 freaking out when that song came on. LOVE ME LIKE A BOMB BABY! COME AND GET IT ON!  :)   Now the kids do the freak and no one knows how to dance to the 80s beat. At one point they all had a huge line of the back to front grinding. I’m trying to think of what our generation did to shock the elders. Probably just “Monie Monie.”  :)

Last day at LNS for the week…off to Omaha

Well, I had over half of my French 4 gone for Junior Day, so it is game day. One group is surreptitiously creating a video which mocks our 1989 masterpiece, “Raymond.” They think I can’t hear them, and they don’t think I suspect it after they asked what my hometown was.

Tomorrow I will be in Omaha for the NETA technology conference. I hope I get some new ideas to connect to my students through technology. Then, Mom is coming on Friday, and the Heminger clan is coming Sunday for Ava Leah’s 2nd birthday.  She’s been getting teeth this week, so she’s been pretty cranky.  I hope she’s over that by Friday! If not, I ordered a DQ cake, so then it’ll feel good on her teeth.

Well, I’ll update again while I’m bored at the conference! :)

HAPPY LAST DAYS OF EVER HAVING A ONE YEAR OLD!!!!  :(

Sunday musings

Filed under: La famille — by lapetitepoule @ 8:48 pm

Well, I just dragged two rugs outside to roast in the sun and hopefully air out the doggie smell that inevitably comes wafting out every spring when we turn off the heat. I mopped the floors two times over and dusted everything, all while the boys played supernintendo and Ava napped. Then I bid on a few items for Ava on eBay, so we’ll see if I both Val and I win after the his soccer game!

Val has his first 3-on-3 soccer game at 5:00. We’re going to try bringing everyone with the promise of DQ for good behavior and the threat of no DQ for bad behavior. I always hate it when it’s no DQ, though, because that means no DQ for moi.

Health update… Doug is still sick with a cold and I found out I am allergic to the antibiotic Bactrim/Bactrum (?) as I broke out in an all-over body rash on Friday. The nurse sent me home from school, and I went to the doctor, who said I could never take it again. I got prednisone and claritin and some cream, and as of today, the rash is way down. I am still burn-y and itchy, though. Good lord! Hence the feeling I had to super-clean my house. Maybe I need it professionally cleaned and fumigated!

The ONE good thing about being sent home on a Friday when Doug was working was that we already had a babysitter for the kids all day, so I selfishly took Friday afternoon for myself. First I went to the mall and put a pile of things on hold for GymBucks at Gymboree. Then I went to Open Harvest, a co-op with a great deli, and had lunch on the patio and called my old friend, Barb. Then, I went thrifting and popped over to Francoise’s house, where we chatted and had tea — just like old times. Then I picked Val up and we got ready to volunteer at Nature Night at his school.

Val is in Nature Club, and the gal that runs it organized about 20 organizations to have hands-on activities related to conservation, recycling, animals, etc. There was an outside booth where the DNR was teaching kids to cast. Both Val and Connor were naturals at it, so I think I know what to get them for their birthdays. I think Grandma Gail will need to teach them how to fish this summer!

Last weekend was really fun, seeing Dan and Anna (Sophia is soooo cute!) and Deloris, as well as the Gottlobs with adorable Elizabeth. Both babies loved me of course ( :) ) and I was surprised my ovaries weren’t screaming out. I’m happy with my three!

Well, another week starts tomorrow. I’m still practicing for BodyStep. I’m really trying to be “exact” in my moves. Of course I’m not supposed to sweat with this rash, but I’m too antsy to get the routines learned. We’ll see how I feel later in the week.

P.S.  I have not idea if Val’s team won or not, but he sure had fun! His comment was, “I wish I could do this everyday!”  He sure is fast. I told Doug that Val’s in the Forrest Gump stage. Tell him to run and HE RUNS FAST!
